This Thursday, June 19th, Instead of Sleeping, Culture Thief, Timelines and Ryan Glaspell will be performing at the cafe's first ever beach-themed concert.

It's going to be a hot evening, so cool off with some soothing tunes. If you come decked out in beach attire, then you will receive a free pair of sunglasses and a Hawaiian lei (while supplies last).

The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the music starts at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5.

From left to right: Woody Wright, Corey McClaine, Shaun Sweeney and Jeff Binardo
Who are they: Hailing from Pittsburgh, Instead of Sleeping is a four-piece indie rock band. Since 2008, the band has been refining their pop-inflected brand of earnest indie rock. Their latest release, Young Lungs, is full of catchy melodies and playful synths. Their music is polished and colorful without succumbing to the phoniness of overproduction.

Why you should care: These guys have shared the stage with the likes of Fun. and The Dear Hunter, and it makes sense why. Their songs are fun to listen to, but they aren't inauthentic. Every song has a mesmerizing groove about it. It's like chewing a candy that won't rot your teeth. You get all of the advantages of hearing an upbeat indie rock band while simultaneously listening to a vulnerable and talented group of musicians.

Listen:

Culture Thief
From left to right: Joshua Lucas, Jordan Wean, Seth Cochran, Craig Debastiani, Neil Wallace and Terry Rogers are the beautiful gentlemen that make up Culture Thief.
From left to right: Joshua Lucas, Jordan Wean, Seth Cochran, Craig Debastiani, Neil Wallace and Terry Rogers
Who are they: Based out of Fairmont, West Virginia, Culture Thief is a band that is not easily described. Their sound is a blend of jazz-inflected, bluesy rock music with hints of soul and folk strung throughout. This collective of musicians is bursting with talent. Their songs will persuade you to dance around and then weep.

Why should you care: While listening to Culture Thief, it is likely that you will have a transcendental experience. From Terry Rogers’ entrancing sax melodies to Craig Debastiani’s ethereal vocals, you won’t walk away from a Culture Thief set unchanged. Each member of this six-piece collective exudes passion and technical ability. Even if you don’t know bass clef from treble clef, the chemistry and talent in Culture Thief is impossible to miss.

Listen:

Timelines

Evan Ferrell (left) and Tyler St. Clair (right) are half of Timelines.
Evan Ferrell (left) and Tyler St. Clair (right) are half of Timelines
Who are they: Timelines started off as a serenely melodic duo of Evan Ferrell and Tyler St. Clair, but has since evolved into a full band with Tyler Wells on drums and Eric Kirkland on bass. Their latest EP, Home, is riddled with buttery vocals, atmospheric guitar leads and heartfelt melodies.

Why you should care: Back when they had nothing more than an acoustic guitar, electric guitar and vocals their music had a heartfelt sincerity that wove its way through every listeners’ ears and into their soul. Now that they are supported by basslines and drum rhythms, their music has evolved into something even more sublime. After hearing a Culture Thief and a Timelines set you won’t even know who you are anymore.

Listen:

Ryan Glaspell

Who is he: Ryan has been performing music in one way or another for most of his life. After cycling through a couple of full bands, he began writing acoustic music in a duo entitled The Light of Day. He now writes music as a solo singer-songwriter.

Why you should care: Ryan's songs don't commit to one specific style of acoustic music. In the same set you'll hear an upbeat, reggae-styled jam and a slow, heart-aching ballad. He wears his emotions on his sleeves, and his songs reflect that. His voice caters to each style, whether it's a gritty yell, or a delicate falsetto.

Q&A with Shaun Sweeney (Instead of Sleeping)

In case you missed the announcement, this Thursday is The Main Street Cafe's first ever Beach Bonanza. Pittsburgh indie rockers Instead of Sleeping are being joined by Culture Thief, Timelines and Ryan Glaspell to put on a beach-tastic show.

The show starts at 5:30 and admission is $5. If you come in beach apparel, then you will get a free pair of sunglasses and a Hawaiian lei (while supplies last).

Shaun Sweeney, vocalist and guitarist for Instead of Sleeping, answered some questions via email about his band, the show and the summer thus far. Check out the interview below!

The Main Street Cafe: How’s the summer been going for Instead of Sleeping?

Shaun Sweeney: This summer has been one of the busiest in our careers. The crazy thing is, it has been this hectic since before Thanksgiving. A lot of planning and strategy has gone into this summer's release of our new album "Young Lungs". But all the hard work and biding our time has been more than worth it

TMSC: Have you played in the Clarksburg area before? If so, what was that like?

SS: We have only once. We played Main Street Cafe a year or so ago, but we didn't even get to play full band! This time we won't just be coming with the full band, but an entirely new set!

TMSC: What are you looking forward to about the show?

SS: We can't wait to play as a full band for people who only got to see half of what we like to do at shows. We can't wait to play the new songs that we put our heart and soul into. And we can't wait to see everyone in their bathing suits and stuff for this themed show!

TMSC: How would describe your band’s sound in a sentence?

SS: The sound is everywhere from angry and vengeful to smooth and sexy, and could be most understood by people who know how fine the line can be in between.

TMSC: What can people expect from an Instead of Sleeping live show?

SS: We have done everything from bring out extra drum kits, blow up confetti cannons, and at the end of every show, if we don't pack our shit up dripping wet in sweat, then we did something wrong.

TMSC: It’s a beach-themed bonanza; do you have any beach gear you’re looking forward to rocking out in?

SS: We have been in the market for inflatables and goggles... Don't wanna give too much away!!

TMSC: What’s your favorite thing about the summer?

SS: Falling asleep under the stars on warm summer nights. Waking up on the beach. (Another band member tacked grilling onto that list too.)

TMSC: What’s something people might not know about your band?

SS: We've always said that every single song is all from personal experiences. Every songs a story. We live through that at every show. But one thing that people might not know is, if you want to hear that story, all you have to do is talk to us. We love getting to know new people and we love when people come and get to know us!

TMSC: Finally, what would you like the Clarksburg area to know about you and your band and this show?

SS: About us: We are an honest band, so we want everyone to know we are really looking forward to this show! The bands who we are playing with, the venue we are playing, the songs we are playing, and the people we are going to get to meet. June 19 is going to be an excellent night that nobody is going to want to miss

The Main Street Cafe to host all-ages beach-themed concert.

BEACH

Bust out your bikinis and board shorts, there's going to be a Main Street Beach Bonanza!

The Main Street Cafe is truly kicking off their summer on June 19th when Pittsburgh indie rockers Instead of Sleeping will join forces with three local favorites to put on a beach-themed bash for the ages.

Instead of Sleeping performed at The Main Street Cafe once before, before its management changed hands. At that show they weren't full band, but now they're coming back with a full band and set full of new songs. For anyone who saw their last set, this is an opportunity to catch them again, this time with no holds barred.

"We can't wait to play as a full band for people who only got to see half of what we like to do at shows. We can't wait to play the new songs that we put our heart and soul into," said vocalist and guitarist Shaun Sweeney.

Their latest release, Young Lungs, dropped on May 24th, and is a shiny, shimmering example of how indie rock can be polished without losing its underground, DIY edge. This came as a result of heading to Chicago and working with Mark McClusky (Weezer, Bad Religion, Ludo, LetLive. and more).

Young Lungs is the band's fourth studio release, and is their most dynamic effort to date. It is playful and bright, yet isn't restricted by the pop-inflected sound. Rather, it makes it more accessible to anyone willing to listen.

Sweeney said, "The sound is everywhere from angry and vengeful to smooth and sexy, and could be most understood by people who know how fine the line can be in between."

Joining Instead of Sleeping will be Timelines, Culture Thief and Ryan Glaspell. If you've never caught Timelines or Culture Thief live, then now is the perfect time to do it. Both bands have their own unique knack for writing lively, impassioned rock.

Timelines creates entrancing pop rock that is guaranteed to have you swaying and moving your feet. By the end of their set you'll feel like you are walking on air.

Culture Thief is a true spectacle to behold. They are a collection of musicians collaborating in a magical way onstage to produce blues-inflected jam rock. They bleed talent and sweat passion with ever note.

Ryan Glaspell spans the spectrum of acoustic music. Whether its a catchy, cheery tune, or a personal ballad, his serenading will make you happy, sad and then happy again.

This isn't your average show of talented musicians, though. It's a beach bonanza.

"It was really Evan's (Ferrell, Timelines) idea," Manager Daniel Bonner said, "We were all for it though, because we felt like the cafe needed a theme like this to really kick us off for summer."

What better way to celebrate summer than with beach balls and ocean-gear? If you come decked out in beach attire, then you'll get rewarded with some accessories courtesy of the show.

Evan Ferrell, the beautiful voice behind Timelines, has been busy preparing for the theme.

"We bought a big bulk pack of sunglasses and leis to pass out to everyone who wears beach stuff," Ferrell said.

The Main Street Cafe staff and the musicians will also be putting on their finest swimsuits for the show.

"We have been in the market for inflatables and goggles," Sweeney said, "Don't wanna give too much away!"

Timelines will be adorned with beach gear too.

"I just bought a neon green Hawaiian shirt with trees on it. It is so ugly and so very perfect," Ferrell said.

You might even get lucky and see Daniel Bonner wearing a speedo. Who knows?

Admission is only $5, a small price to pay for energetic music and free beach gear (if you dress accordingly).

Show starts at 6:30, but come early to grab your sunglasses and lei before they run out. You may even see some limbo going down.

Check back next Monday for a full Q&A with Shaun Sweeney of Instead of Sleeping.

The Rundown: Friday the 13th feat. Culture Thief & friends 5/13

This Friday you've go to beware of black cats, broken mirrors and pennies on tails. But one thing you don't have to be cautious about is hearing brilliantly crafted rock music, or paying for it!

Tomorrow on Friday the 13th, local jam-masters Culture Thief are going to be headlining a free show at The Main Street Cafe. In addition to Culture Thief, Timelines and Ghost House will be administering their own blends of emotion-laden rock tunes. This will truly be the trifecta of passionate, melodic rock.

The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and there is no admission fee, so you have no reason to skip out! Come fight bad luck at The Main Street Cafe.

Who are they: Ghost House's music is woeful and moving. Soft, but piercing. These four guys from Morgantown forge post-emo indie rock, the likes of Brand New and Sunny Day Real Estate. Their self-titled EP (available for free on Bandcamp) features fluid instrumentation and vocals that jump between a soft murmur and throaty yell.

Why you should care: If you're into introspective, melancholic indie rock, then Ghost House will more than satisfy you. Their expressive songwriting is addictive. You'll feel transported back to the late 90s when emo was fading and indie rock was beginning to crawl. This music will infest itself in your innermost feelings and bring them out.

The Rundown: Monster Reborn Tour 6/6

The great thing about rock music is that there are so many different forms of it.

This Friday, June 6th, The Main Street Cafe will be hosting an eclectic evening of rock. We'll be showcasing everything from indie pop-rock and rockabilly punk to metal and alt rock.

Rhode Island hard rock quintet Absence of Despair is embarking on their Monster: Reborn Tour. They will be receiving local support from Jet Set Vapour Trails, Haggard Wülf, Barracuda and The Laser Beams.

The doors will open at 4 p.m. and the show starts at 5 p.m.

Admission is $5.

Absence of Despair

Who are they: Absence of Despair brings forth metal-infused alt-rock music from Providence, Rhode Island. Their songs include dueling guitar riffs, explosive solos, and vocals that range from edgy screams to cutting cleans. The five piece has everything you would want in a hard rock band, and then throw in some added grit.

Why you should care: This band is kicking off their cross-country, 30-date tour here in Clarksburg West Virginia. 10 days after this show they're performing in Hollywood. If that isn't impressive then give their music a listen. It's aggressive and heavy and melodic. Whether you're swayed by the expansive tour or dynamic sound, make sure that Clarksburg gives these guys a hell of a tour kickoff!

Jet Set Vapour Trails

From left to right: Orville Weale, Jeff Goodwin and Thomas Moore

Who are they: Jet Set Vapour Trails is a three-piece rock band full of veteran musicians. From Morgantown, West Virginia, they came together with years of experience making music already under their belts. This is apparent in the brooding alt-rock they create. Sounding like powerful rock colliding with 90′s grunge-punk, Jet Set Vapour Trails produces menacingly beautiful music.

Why you should care: In this area you can find loud punk and aggressive metal, there’s melodious pop rock and singer-songwriters, but there isn’t anyone quite like Jet Set Vapour Trails. There are few local alt-rock acts, and even fewer with the chemistry and experience present in Jet Set Vapour Trails.

Haggard Wülf

From left to right: Leeroy Jenkins and Frank Gunner

Who are they: Haggard Wülf is a two-piece rock band from Morgantown, West Virginia composed of Leeroy Jenkins and Frank Gunner. Their sound is a wonderful conglomeration of blues, rockabilly and folk rock. Their songs are littered with sound clips and soulfully haggard vocals.

Why you should care: Haggard Wülf will have you feeling the blues in some way shape or form. Whether it is a slow, marching tune full of woe, or an upbeat rockabilly groove with punk-tinged vocals, Haggard Wülf spans the genre of bluesy rock, and then some. Seldom will a two-piece fill the air with as much resonance and grooving sound as Haggard Wülf.

Listen: [bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=2622954140 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=0687f5 tracklist=false artwork=small track=381263686]

Barracuda

From left to right: Jack Friend, Tyler Washburn, Mike "Spider" Chan, Alex Baker and Tim Taylor

Who are they: Barracuda knows how to play punk music: loud and fast. Formed in Morgantown, WV., Barracuda contains members formerly of local punk act Dangerkat. Barracuda's music is impassioned punk with a 50's rock flair thrown in. Lively stage presence and racing guitar riffs are components of any and all of their performances.

Why you should care: With Barracuda, it all comes down to having a good time. It's not with every band that you can run around, mosh, jump or frantically scream. Between the driving punk vibe and rocking guitar licks, it's hard not to have fun while listening to Barracuda. You should care because you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't go crazy during their set.

Listen:

Head to Barracuda's ReverbNation page and check out their tunes!

The Laser Beams

From left to right: Cat Schrodinger, Pepper Fandango and Leo Tuxedo

From left to right: Cat Schrodinger, Pepper Fandango and Leo Tuxedo

Who are they: What started out as a two-person backing band for the Wayward Girls School of Burlesque evolved into a trio of musicians generating playful pop rock tunes that the band has dubbed as "glam garage". Founders Pepper Fandango and Cat Schrodinger began the project in 2013, and with the addition of Leo Tuxedo they have been hitting the road playing shows.

Why you should care: The Laser Beams' songs are cleverly written and have an irresistible charm about them. Song themes range from going skinny dipping while camping ("The Camping Song") to being sexually attracted to a bully ("Everybody Knows"). Their lively style is sure to have you tapping your feet and maybe even doing a jig.

The Rundown: As They Sleep & Forsake The Fallen 5/31

Prepare yourselves, the metal is coming.

This Saturday, May 31st, The Main Street Cafe is being taken over by brutal, rampaging death metal. Presented by DxD Booking, the show features Detroit-based death metal outfits As They Sleep and Forsake The Fallen. Morgantown death metal The Kafka Machine and AC/DC tribute band BON's Johnson will be providing local support.

This all ages show is going to the first time any of these bands have performed at The Main Street Cafe. Corral all of your friends, and even your enemies, and come headbang and mosh until your body gives out.

The doors open at 5 p.m. and the show begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $8 at the door after 6 p.m. and $6 from 5-6 p.m.

 As They Sleep

From left to right: Barry Gomez (guitar), Derek Kosiba (bass), Aaron Bridgewater (vox), Nick Morris (guitar), Tony Lukitsh (drums)

From left to right: Barry Gomez (guitar), Derek Kosiba (bass), Aaron Bridgewater (vocals), Nick Morris (guitar) and Tony Lukitsh (drums)

Who are they: As They Sleep combines precision and ferocity with their fast-paced, in-your-face metal. Based out of Detroit, this five-piece manages to create crystal clear metal without losing any viciousness to overproduction. Their 2010 release "Dynasty" is everything you could want from a metal album. Its high-octane riffs are full of finesse and the cutting vocals are addicting.

Why should you care: Clarksburg has seen its fair share of metal bands come and go over the past decade. While some were alarmingly brutal and others knew how to light up a guitar with sweep picking, few could combine the two in such a fashion as As They Sleep do. These guys tour from coast to coast and they have a new album coming this year. If your heart beats the slightest bit faster when you hear metal, then prepare for cardiac arrest because As They Sleep isn't a band that messes around.

From left to right: Zak Marzouq (lead vocals/guitar), Joe Santangelo (guitar/vocals),Corey Maxwell (drums) and Jordan Marzouq (bass/vocals)

Who are they: Que the racing solos, chugging riffs and powerhouse vocals. Forsake The Fallen, from the Metro Detroit area, know how to make an epic metal anthem. Their songs go from slow to fast and heavy to heavier. Each member of this metal quartet displays incredible ability. You'll hear guitars gallop and then rip out a solo, and the vocals go from gut-wrenching growls to powerful cleans in the matter of seconds.

Why should you care: Just as with As They Sleep, Forsake The Fallen combine meticulousness with savagery. Try to find a song as vicious as "War Within Me" (below) that boasts equally as gripping and dynamic cleans. This band has only been around for three years and they make music like they're veterans of metal. At the end of a song you'll be left fulfilled and breathless.

The Kafka Machine

Who are they: The Kafka Machine hail from Morgantown, West Virginia. They're five dudes with a passion for heavy music. The past five years of the band's existence have seen multiple lineup changes, but their current lineup produces relentlessly heavy music (check the video below).

Why should you care: The Kafka Machine make the type of pissed off death metal that is easily felt by listeners. They are loud, aggressive and local. Those are three tasty traits. As They Sleep and Forsake The Fallen aren't going to be around West Virginia immediately after this show, but The Kafka Machine play countless shows in the Morgantown and Fairmont area, so it's best to get acquainted.

BON's Johnson

Who are they: BON's Johnson is a three-piece band from Morgantown, West Virginia who play nothing but AC/DC tunes.

Why should you care: Danny Strakal, the face behind DxD Booking, calls them, "The greatest AC/DC tribute you'll ever see." C'mon, AC/DC are forefathers of metal and rock. Anyone who's going to pay homage to them by dedicating their entire band to their greatness deserves to be listened to.

Listen: No shortcuts here. Come to the show to hear AC/DC revived like never before by three rockers from Morgantown. In the meantime, get pumped up with some classic AC/DC.

The Rundown: The Breakout Tour 5/28

This Wednesday, May 28th, Dive and Man On Earth will be bringing the heat to The Main Street Cafe as part of their eastern Breakout Tour.

If you're a fan of rock, whether it be commercial alt-rock or late-night indie rock, then you won't want to miss this. New Jersey native Dive has performed with the best, and they're on their way to joining their ranks, and Man On Earth's eclectic style of rock is some of the best New York City has to offer.

Joining them with local support will be jam-rockers Culture Thief, aggro-pop punk babes Get With It and melody-laden songbirds Tomorrow to Forever.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the music starts at 6 p.m.

Admission is $5.

Dive

From left to right: Joey Tone, Tony Colosi, Jonny Dive and Derek Gormley make up Dive.

Who are they: Dive churns out radio-ready hard rock, packed full of aggressive vocals and racing guitar solos. Formed in New Jersey in 2003, Jonny Dive (vocals), Joey Tone (guitar), Derek Gormley (bass) and Tony Colosi (drums) have toured the country and performed with the likes of Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Three Days Grace and more.

Why should you care: This is a band meant for packed stadiums, and they're going to be coming to downtown Clarksburg to play in The Main Street Cafe. It's basic science, when you take all of the energy and epic-ness meant for stadiums and compact it to a small, but equally rad area, there's going to be an overflow of awesome. These guys are in the midst of their Breakout Tour, and they're going to rock harder than you've ever heard.

From left to right: Steven Nathan, Steve Gregoire, Adam Root and Angelo Modica make up Man On Earth.

Who are they: Man On Earth bring forth a mixing pot of indie rock. At times bouncy and light, and other times crawling with a harder edge, these New York City rockers don't hold back. They have relentlessly toured the country the past few years, and when it came time to record their 2014 self-titled album they hooked up with Cooper Anderson (Fun., Kanye West).

Why should you care: They were ranked by Deli Magazine as one of NYC's top live rock bands. In case you were unaware, NYC is overloaded with ambitious rockers, so that isn't a toss-away accolade. In addition to that nod, they have received multiple other awards, as well as having songs earning a handful of spots on TV and radio broadcasts. Their sound is fun and energetic, and their new album is sick.

From left to right: John Mazza (ex), Alex Voldeck, Greg Tassos, Nick Terwilliger and Evan Ferrell are the dudes behind Get With It.

Who are they: Five guys making noise, and having the time of their life doing it. That is Get With It in a nutshell. A punk band from Clarksburg, West Virginia, Get With It bridges the gap between pop punk and hardcore. They combine catchy riffs and upbeat tempos with throaty yells and the occasional brutal breakdown.

Why should you care: Get With It has knack for not giving a crap whether they're playing in front of five people or a hundred people. They go hard every show. You're guaranteed to see some wild stage antics from vocalist Greg Tassos. You can make a circle pit or you could furiously nod your head along to the beat-driven verses. Either way, it's a good way to burn some calories while being bombarded with loud, angry punk music.

From left to right: Grayson Prince, Grace Corley and Aron Golden are three-fourths of Tomorrow to Forever.

Who are they: Heart-on-your-sleeve melodic pop is the business that Tomorrow to Forever are in. Originally a moniker for frontman Grayson Prince, the band grew to include Grace Corley doing vocals, Aron Golden on drums and D.J. Smith on guitar. Their songs range from somber war anthems to ballads about post-love affliction, but they consistently retain the utmost sincerity and suave.

Why should you care: Any time that anyone puts this much heart and emotion into anything it is worth listening to. The combination of Grayson's soft croon and Grace's chilling falsetto will draw you in from the start. Sometimes you want to throw 'bows and hardcore dance, but then other times you need something to mellow you out, and the tunes of Tomorrow to Forever do just that.

I caught up with Comrade Aaron, vocalist and bassist of The Strange Times, and asked him some questions about his band and the upcoming show.

The Main Street Cafe: When and how did The Strange Times begin?

Comrade Aaron: In December 2012, I was at a head shop in NYC. I was asking the shop owner if I could buy a bong with a picture of Noam Chomsky painted on it. Sean happened to be in the shop at the same time. He overheard this conversation, pulled me to the side and said he knew just the dude who could take care of this task. He introduced me to Jeff, who has a knack for glass-painting. Jeff painted Noam's face on a red, 12 inch bong and it came out incredible! The three of us kicked back, put the bong to good use, then came up with the idea to start the band.

TMSC: Who all makes up the band?

CA: I’m the vocalist and bassist, Sean plays guitar and Jeff plays drums. We also have a part time electric-violinist named CaroLion, but unfortunately she won’t be able to make it to The Main Street Café show.

TMSC: What type of music do you make?

CA: Strange punk.

TMSC: Want to say a little bit about this mini tour?

CA: It’s our first tour and we’re extremely psyched to see how it plays out! Arbitrary insanity will be mandatory for all 5 days.

TMSC: Have you ever been through this area before?

CA: Nope, it’s our first time, so please be gentle. Shout out to Yellowdog Union for suggesting The Main Street Café! Unfortunately, they’re not able to play, but all the bands on this show kick ass.

TMSC: What can people expect from a live show?

CA: They should expect to be so overcome by the energy and music, that they experience a heavy state of synesthesia. Vibrant colors will whirl in front of their eyes as they circle pit into a frenzy.

TMSC: Where can people hear your music?

CA: We just released a music video for our song “Potion” on BlankTV! Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLqPBwJyR6g. You can stream or download our debut EP “I Love Cops” and our single “Firing” at http://thestrangetimes.bandcamp.com.

TMSC: Any new releases coming up?

CA: We’re heading into the studio at the end of August to work on our next project. I don’t think I should give too much away yet, but one of our favorite punk rock artists is coming into the studio to work on it with us! Stay tuned for updates.

TMSC: Anything else people should know about The Strange Times?

CA: Like us at http://facebook.com/thestrangetimes! We are fully utilizing the powers of punk rock to flip the world on its head, and we are intent on recruiting anyone and everyone interested in joining us! Strange punk or die.

Come support The Strange Times and more tomorrow, May 25th.

The Rundown: The Strange Times & Jet Set Vapour Trails LIVE 5/25

Welcome to "The Rundown", where we will be giving everyone a taste of the music they will see at upcoming shows.

This Sunday, May 25th, New York punk outfit, The Strange Times, will be passing through on their Spring Tour. They'll be receiving support from local acts Jet Set Vapour Trails, Barracuda and The 5th Gear.

This show is equal parts noisy punk and power rock.

Doors open at 4 p.m., and the show is at 5 p.m. Admission is $5.

With that said, let's get to The Rundown.

The Strange Times

From left to right: Jeff, Sean, Comrade Aaron and CaroLion are The Strange Times.

Who are they: Hailing from New York City, The Strange Times is not your average loud, urban punk band. Formed in the winter of 2012, they have been crafting a colorful blend of contagious punk rock that is guaranteed to get your feet moving. The band is composed of bassist/vocalist Comrade Aaron, guitarist Sean, drummer Jeff, and occasionally electric-violinist CaroLion.

Why should you care: There are two main reasons you should care about The Strange Times. First, they are coming from New York City. Their mini-tour is five dates spanning all down the East Coast and we're lucky enough to be one of those dates! Secondly, they kick ass. Seriously, this band has all of the energetic allure of a punk band with none of the sloppiness. Take fast-paced punk and mix in vibrant rock riffs and charismatic vocals and you've got The Strange Times. I know Clarksburg is full of punk-loving folks. Let's show these guys how a little West Virginia town runs a punk show.

Jet Set Vapour Trails

From left to right, Orville Weale, Jeff Goodwin and Thomas Moore compose Jet Set Vapour Trails.

From left to right: Orville Weale, Jeff Goodwin and Thomas Moore compose Jet Set Vapour Trails.

Who are they: Jet Set Vapour Trails is a three-piece rock band full of veteran musicians. From Morgantown, WV., they came together with years of experience making music already under their belts. This is apparent in the brooding alt-rock they create. Sounding like powerful rock colliding with 90's grunge-punk, Jet Set Vapour Trails produces menacingly beautiful music.

Why you should care: In this area you can find loud punk and aggressive metal, there's melodious pop rock and singer-songwriters, but there isn't anyone quite like Jet Set Vapour Trails. There are few local alt-rock acts, and even fewer with the chemistry and experience present in Jet Set Vapour Trails.

Barracuda

From left to right: Jack Friend, Mike "Spider" Chan, Tyler Washburn and Tim Taylor make up Barracuda.

The 5th Gear

From left to right: Dylan, Franky, Brandon, Kelsey, and Riki make up The 5th Gear.

From left to right: Dylan, Franky, Brandon, Kelsey, and Riki make up The 5th Gear.

Who are they: What started out as five teenagers participating in Bandland’s Rock Camp in the summer of 2013 grew to be an era-spanning rock band. Three-fifths of The 5th Gear are siblings. Brothers Dylan, Riki and Franky Satterfield team up with Brandon Kennedy and Kelsey Jeffries to churn out hard rock anthems.

Why you should care: These are teenagers busting out everything from Led Zeppelin and Guns N' Roses to Metallica and Green Day, as well as well-crafted originals. The 5th Gear may be young, but they've got old souls. When was the last time you heard a 12-year-old laying down beats for hard-hitting rock songs? If you enjoy rock in any form, then The 5th Gear probably have something to offer.

Maid Myriad vocalist comes to the cafe: a Q&A with JCK.

This Wednesday, May 21st,Unraveled. aid Myriad will be kicking off the "These Fragile Bones Tour", his first acoustic outing, by coming to The Main Street Cafe.

JCK is the epitome of DIY. Based out of Akron, Ohio, Jeff Klemm (JCK) writes, performs, records, mixes and promotes his own music. Currently the frontman for Ohio rock trio Maid Myriad, he has toured the country multiple times performing music.

This tour, JCK is going solo. He'll be receiving local support from Morgantown three-piece rock band Fuck Your Birthday, who are also kicking off their own tour, hard hitting rock duo False Pterodactyl, folk-punk duo Captain Catfeesh, I Am a Sea Creature, and Unraveler.

The music will start at 6 p.m., and admission is $5. JCK's crooning vocals, a mix between soft and forceful, sets him apart from your average frontman-gone-singer/songwriter.

Just in case you need some convincing, here's a video of him doing Maid Myriad's "Encircled" acoustic.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XwWfyJG9v4

If you're not impressed by his vocal range you're probably deceiving yourself. I reached out to JCK via Facebook and asked him some questions. Check out the exclusive interview with him below.

The Main Street Cafe: First off, want to say a little bit about this tour that you’re embarking on?

JCK: This is my first solo acoustic tour showcasing brand new songs due to be released on an acoustic album that will come out this summer. I'm actually embarking on this whole tour using public transportation, so it will be a pretty interesting way to see the country and travel.

TMSC: How often do you get to play solo?

JCK: The acoustic side of my music is something I always do in my spare time, but haven't really done on a consistent basis. It really depends on the schedule of Maid Myriad. Last year we did 5 tours with over 100 shows all over America, and the only time I had for my acoustic was during (downtime) or in between tours. This year, we've been really busy wrapping up mixing for our first full length album which will be released in August.

TMSC:  Have you played in Clarksburg or West Virginia before?

JCK: We've actually never played West Virginia before.

TMSC: How does it feel to be playing acoustic instead of full band?

JCK: It really is a whole different monster. With the band, we're a three piece. We're loud, heavy, we flail around and make a ton of noise! We've been told it sounds like there's 5 guys onstage! With the acoustic set it's pretty much the opposite. I'm by myself with an acoustic guitar so it's very mellow. I really like to push the fact that you can be intense while being dynamically soft.

TMSC: What sort of songs can we expect, Maid Myriad, originals, covers?

JCK: You can certainly expect some acoustic versions of Maid Myriad songs slated to be on the full length record. I also have an album's worth of solo acoustic songs I will be road testing before I head into the studio in June to track that record. Aaannnnd you might hear a few cover songs slipped in there.

TMSC: What are you most excited about for this show?

JCK: I LOVE playing/seeing/experiencing new cities and meeting new people. It's really what attracts me to being a touring musician.

TMSC: Finally, if you could duet with any musician on any song, who would it be, what song, and why?

JCK: This is such a tough question! I would LOVE to sing with hundreds of other musicians who inspire me daily..... I don't know. Today my answer will be Bjork. She floors me.

Head to The Main Street Cafe and hear JCK from the band Maid Myriad  on Wednesday 5/21.

It looks like a fine night for a dance party.

Do you hear that? It's the sound of the bass dropping, feet shuffling and bodies moving. It's the sound of a dance party extravaganza.

After seeing the success of two prom after parties at The Main Street Cafe, the staff decided it was time to crank it up and make an all ages rave.

"We have done two teen dance parties that have gone over well. I want to break from the norm of concerts and game nights and give people a 'club' scene for a night," Manager Daniel Bonner said.

This Saturday, starting at 8 p.m., there will be a free dance. It's just like a nightclub with no cover charge, except you don't have to worry about preppy college "dudes" or sassy diva wannabes perpetuating drama all night.

Come down and enjoy our comfortable atmosphere, top notch beverages and friendly staff to make your weekend one to remember. DJ Vendetta will be bringing the tunes for everyone to move their feet to.

We will have our full selection of domestic and imported beers, smoothies and coffee drinks for sale. If you want to indulge in something classy, or maybe you're under 21 and want to pretend you're a legal drinker, we will be having non-alcoholic herbal martinis.

When you're not sipping on your beverage of choice, be prepared to dance.

Whether you want to shuffle to some EDM or shake your booty to club-banging hip hop, this Saturday is for you.

"We are going to be playing a variety of music, anywhere from 80s through now," Bonner said.

The elusive, mysterious DJ Vendetta will return to the cafe for a 3rd time to crank out the jams.

The elusive, mysterious DJ Vendetta will return to the cafe for a 3rd time to crank out the jams.

What happens if you have a request? Bring them on up and tell DJ Vendetta. A world of music is at his fingertips.

Although there is no formal theme, feel free to don your sexiest costume and come have a good time. It is going to be an exciting night full of eclectic fun. One minute you could be getting your twerk on with Alice in Wonderland, and the next waltzing to a pop ballad with a dapper-looking gentleman. One rule: if "Don't Stop Believin'" comes one, you must scream along.

At The Main Street Cafe we just want everyone to have a good time and make some memories. If you feel like blowing off some steam and acting like a fool for a few hours, then come hang out with us. You will most definitely be seeing Sissy Broadwater, the other lovely manager, shaking her tail feather.

The party will be raging until 2 a.m., so there is ample time to make your way downtown to the last dance party until June.

Grab a load of friends, do your pre-dance stretches and come get sweaty.

The Main Street Cafe hosts show to benefit Bill McAtee.

This Friday's show is more than just your typical evening of music. It is an opportunity to help out a family in a time of need.

On April 1st, Bill McAtee was diagnosed with cancer.

Bill and his wife Sonya

Bill and Sonya

Bill, 44, is married and has three children. He, his wife, Sonya, and his daughter, Alex, live in Nutter Fort. With his diagnosis, stage 2 unfavorable Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Bill has to undergo chemo treatments for twice as long as normal. This is due to having more than three cancerous masses.

"It’s in the lymph nodes, it’s in between my lungs, it’s on the outsides of my lungs and it’s in the bottom of my throat," Bill said.

Bill is three weeks into his chemo treatments, and between the sickness and side effects of treatment, daily life has seen some major changes for him and his wife.

"Day to day life, he’s home by himself all day while I work because I’m working as much as I can because I don’t have many days left that I can take with pay," Sonya, a preschool aid at North View Elementary, said.

Bill, a distribution manager for Dr. Pepper, has had to collect disability since his sickness.

"It's just, you get tired easier. There are side effects to the chemo. I had a low blood count, so I had to take another shot that’s painful in your bones," Bill said.

Although he's battling cancer, Bill and his wife are thinking of greater things.

"Our prayer is that, through this, God gets glorified. That’s what all trials are about, is God being glorified, and we hope that we can be light into somebody’s life that maybe is going through this later," Sonya said.

Bill adds, "Maybe somebody I’m sitting there having chemo with one day, I can witness to them and talk to them."

As for Bill's condition, they are optimistic about his future.

"It has a really high cure rate, and we trust that God is going to get him through it, and we’re not concerned at this point about him losing his life," Sonya said.

However, when he first received the news, Bill couldn't help but raise the question.

He said, "When the doctor first tells you you got cancer that’s immediately the first thing you think of, 'How much longer do I got?'"

But their steadfast faith in God lends them hope. On the day that they found out he was sick, Sonya stayed up late and wrote down uplifting scripture on 30-some note cards, which are now hung all around the house.

"I just wanted him, wherever he looked, to be encouraged," Sonya said.

Sonya said that, in addition to God, it is the love and support from family and friends that helps keep them going.

Bill and Sonya are long time family friends of Tyler Bish, The Cafe's friendly doorman, sound guy and all around hard worker.

They met when Bill was coaching Tyler's little brother's baseball team.

"I don’t even remember how it happened, but Bill asked me if he wanted me to be his assistant coach, and I was like yeah, sure I’ll do it," Tyler said.

"Ever since then he’s been a friend of my family," Tyler said, "They’ve been there for us no matter what."

When Tyler found out that Bill was diagnosed with cancer, he immediately knew he needed to do something to help. He talked with Daniel Bonner and Sissy Broadwater, The Cafe's managers, and without any hesitation they agreed to host a benefit show.

"That just means the world to me. That shows me not only do they care about this cafe and everything, but they care about people they don’t even know," Tyler said.

The show is aiming to help ease the financial burdens for Bill and Sonya. Between his inability to work and the medical costs, the family is going to be facing a $13,000 financial impact.

Upon hearing the news that a concert was being held in his honor to benefit their financial hardships, Bill was overwhelmed.

"It brought tears to my eyes. It’s just nice to know there’s still people out there that will do things for other people," Bill said.

Four bands and one solo artist are coming together this Friday to provide music free of charge for Bill's benefit. Transylvanian pogo-punks and admired scene veterans, The Renfields, are being joined by The Laser Beams (Huntington, WV rock), Jaguar Mountain Rundown (Uniontown, PA folk-punk), and  singer-songwriter Sonny Schaffer, who is also hosting the event.

Whether you want to support local music, local business or a local community member, grab all your friends and come out to The Cafe on Friday. It's worth it.

"I want people to know that that’s a place they can go, and they can hang out, and they’re good people. Daniel and Sissy are doing things for other people, and you don’t find that every day," said Bill.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m. Admission is $5, with all proceeds from the door going towards the McAtee family.

Meet the Crew: Tyler Bish

If you have been to The Main Street Cafe for any event, it is likely that you've had the pleasure meeting Tyler Bish. Tyler is equal parts doorman, bartender, sound guy and eye candy. One of the most down to earth people you could hope to meet, Tyler loves hanging out and chilling with the many people that walk through Main Street's doors. Fair warning though, if you try to start any trouble, Tyler will make sure you don't disturb the peace and positive energy in The Cafe. He's a kindhearted guy, but he is a very strong kindhearted guy who isn't afraid to kick a troublemaker out.

IMG_4844

What is your name and position at The Main Street Cafe?

My name is Tyler Bish, and my position is whatever they need me for. I've worked the front door. I do a little bit of security. I work behind the bar. I run the sound. I do pretty much anything.

Why did you get involved with The Main Street Cafe?

The first night I was here, which was the kick-off show, I looked around here and I seen everything that was going on, and I decided I wanted to be a part of this. So I started talking to Daniel, and actually lo and behold we actually known each other from years, years back, and I just started talking to him, and he wanted me out here. So that's why I'm here today. We used to go to church camp together. I didn't realize it at the time until we started talking about it. Like, yeah we've known each other for a long, long time.

Favorite musician/band?

Honestly, I love Get With It. I love the way Greg performs and everything else. He can get  a crowd of just five people pumped as much as a crowd of 100 people. And the way they put the music together is all about everybody. I love the way how they perform. I don't think I've seen a  band that has been able to get the crowd excited as much as they can. That, and he gets naked.

What about your favorite bigger band?

I really enjoy the Red Hot Chili Peppers. That's one of my favorites. That's actually what got me playing bass back in the day.

Favorite movie?

I don't have a favorite movie. I watch anything and everything. That's including chick flicks. I could sit there and watch a chick flick and cry as much as I could watch an action movie.

Favorite drink?

Blue Moon. I love my Blue Moon. If I had a choice I could drink that all day. I always make sure we have that here.

What are you most excited about with The Main Street Cafe?

I'm excited about The Cafe in general. To see where we started from and where it's become, just within a couple of months is just simply amazing. And I love seeing the people that's been here for every single show and I love the fact that we're seeing new kids every single week.

What has been your favorite memory of The Cafe so far?

I'd have to say every single day that I spend at the cafe is a good memory. And they're always my favorites. That's probably the best way to put it. There hasn't been a favorite, but everything has been so good to me where it's kind of hard (to choose).

What is your dream for the cafe?

I don't have a dream event, but I actually talked to Daniel and Sissy, and a friend of mine was actually diagnosed with cancer about a month ago, and we're actually throwing a fundraiser on May 16th. And the fact that they're able to do that for me to help them is actually kind of a dream for me. And it's awesome because I'm all about helping people, and since these people have been in my life and has always helped me I'm glad I can repay them in some way, in some form.

You’re stranded on a deserted island. What are your three essentials?

My pocket knife, I always carry a pocket knife. No matter what, you can use a pocket knife with pretty much anything. My dog. My dog has always been there for me through thick and thin. It doesn't matter if I'm depressed or anything, my dog will always be there for me. And my pillow. I don't care where I'm sleeping. As long as I have a freaking pillow I'm happy. It doesn't matter.

Leave everyone with your best bit of life advice.

Just enjoy it. Enjoy the small things and always worry what's going on instead of what's gonna be happening. If you worry too much about what's being planned, then you'll never see what's going on right now.

Anything else the world should know about Tyler Bish?

If you want to know more about me, come to the cafe and get to know me.

Come out to The Main Street Cafe and meet the wonderful human being known as Tyler Bish.

The Fearless Fools LIVE!

What is sweeter than the sound of a person heartily laughing? How about a whole cafe full of people heartily laughing?!

This Friday, May 2nd, The Vintage Theatre Company's comedy troupe, The Fearless Fools, will take the stage at The Main Street Cafe to fill the place with laughter. Starting at 8 p.m., $5 will get you roughly 2 hours of professional-quality improv comedy.

The Fearless Fools is a branch of the Bridgeport-based entertainment collective entitled The Vintage Theatre Company. Formed a little more than a year ago, The Fools specialize in a unique blend of  short form and long form comedy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHnihmPYHPo

"Short form improv comedy is the type of 'games' that have been made popular by the Whose Line television shows hosted by Drew Carey," said Jason Young, founding producer and artistic director of The Vintage Theatre Company.

Young, who is also a member of The Fools' show, said that the majority of the acts consist of this short form improv, but before the night is over they treat the audience with something a little different. Long form improv doesn't center around a simple game or premise, but it is a longer, developing improvisation scene.

"Usually it takes audiences a little while to realize what they are laughing at," Young said.

The Fools is headed by Steve Goff, a comedic veteran who has trained at the nationally renowned comedy enterprise, Chicago Second City.

"He is really the heartbeat of the team and the one who shapes how we play and what our shows look like," said Young.

In addition to Goff, aka Papa Fool, there are eight actors who make up the troupe.

The Fools have brought their impromptu theatre to many venues throughout North Central West Virginia. From the Uptown Event Center in Clarksburg to the Monongalia Arts Center in Morgantown, this young comedy troupe has been actively refining their craft of performing hilarious live skits.

This Friday will mark not only The Fools' first encounter with The Main Street Cafe, but also the first comedy-themed event to ever be held there.

Manager Daniel Bonner said, "I've been asked by a lot of people if we were going to have comedy at the cafe.  The answer was always the same, 'I want to do it, but I don't know any comedians.'"

When Young contacted Bonner to set up a night of comedy, it was as if things just fell into place.

"Needless to say I was stoked!" said Bonner.

When The Cafe isn't casually serving customers quality coffee, beer and smoothies, it primarily functions as a music venue. Although no one is complaining about the music, which has been incredible, a different form of entertainment adds a nice twist for the locals.

"A change of pace is always a good thing. Not only for us, but for the community and our regulars at the cafe," said Bonner.

$5 for a night of high-grade live comedy is a steal. Grab some friends and forego that overpriced movie ticket to come see a hilarious performance you won't forget.

Metal Madness at The Main Street Cafe

This Friday at 5 p.m. prepare yourself for an evening of brutality. This is no show for the weak minded.

The Cafe has hosted open mics and evenings of eclectic rock, but there has yet to be a show with the ferocity that is to come this Friday.

Five bands with five different varieties of "heavy" are coming together to provide an evening of free music.

The Danger of Falling and A Gentleman's Sport, two bands that have been making their rounds at the local venues, will be joined by Mandalorian, In Hills We Thrive and Fifth Column.

This Friday is special for multiple reasons.

  1. It's Fifth Column's first show in Clarksburg in over eight years.

  2. It's Mandalorian's first show ever.

  3. It's In Hills We Thrive's first show in the area.

  4. The Danger of Falling and A Gentleman's Sport are filled with beautiful, talented men.

Manager Sissy Broadwater grew up around hardcore shows, and she understands the unique atmosphere that comes with them.

"It's a completely different energy," she said, "When someone knows they are going to a metal show, they stretch, get their muscle milk on, wear the appropriate clothing, it's an art. People come to these shows pumped and ready to enjoy themselves and it's a really fun environment to be around."

Fifth Column frontman Michael Triviso goes deeper, describing hardcore music as something more than just a good time.

He said, "I think loud, fast and heavy music is therapy for the soul."

He continued, "Pain, anger, and disappointment - these are emotions humans feel at the lowest times in their lives and sadly most people have no outlet for these feelings ... Heavy music to me, is my outlet and my release. I make sure to let it all out on stage so I can go on and live a normal happy life in my day to day interactions."

Whatever vein of metal melts your face and soothes your soul, there's a good chance you can catch it on Friday.

Whether you want some passionate hardcore (The Danger of Falling), in-your-face metal (A Gentleman's Sport, Mandalorian), finely tuned heavy metal (In HIlls We Thrive), or a melting pot of loud, hard music (Fifth Column), look no further than The Main Street Cafe to satiate your needs.

"Heavy, it's not only the way for us it's the only way, period. It's pure, unadulterated high emotion and feeling. It's the realest emotion on earth," said In Hills We Thrive frontman Sam Linville.

The show is free, I'll say it again, free! This Friday is your opportunity to release all of your tension and pent up anger by moshing to five incredibly talented and incredibly brutal bands.

Why should you come to this show? If the free admission and night full of raging metal doesn't sway you, listen to Sissy.

She said, "All of these bands deserve a crowd. Seriously, all the men and woman who play our stage are stars and they need all the recognition they can get. That and I just started making RedBull smoothies at the cafe and I promise you, this drink will give you wings."

Stay metal.

Meet the Musician: Lance Waste (Darling Waste)

Chances are, if you're from Clarksburg you've heard of Darling Waste. The Cleveland-based indie rock outfit, in addition to being a longtime favorite of local music fanatics, has made a name for themselves with their DIY attitude and relentless pursuit of success. The passion has paid off as the band has seen their music featured on MTV and VH1 as well as countless radio stations across the world. From international tours to nationwide treks, Darling Waste has been churning out emotion-laden rock anthems for over a decade. Because of this, they have sold thousands of records and have become a well-respected name in the indie rock movement.

Lance Waste, the creative force behind Darling Waste, has been playing solo acoustic shows as part of the Heart Riot Tour. In addition to the cities he already hit, which includes Myrtle Beach, Lance will make his way to Pittsburgh, Chicago, Indianapolis and more.

This Saturday he will be bringing the arsenal of Darling Waste songs to The Main Street Cafe for a laid back evening of acoustic jams. Joining him is Deerbourne, Tomorrow to Forever and Ryan Glaspell (aka your beloved blogger).

The show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Come down to the cafe today or tomorrow to get the pre-sale price.

I caught up with Lance via Facebook for a chat about the band, the show on Saturday and his relationship with the bearded beauty known as Daniel Bonner.

How has the Heart Riot tour been so far?

So far so good. I’m doing the shows acoustically right now and I had to cancel a few of them because of a family emergency, but I’m back on track now and excited to playing some old songs for longtime fans.

What is your relationship like with WV?

WV has been great to us. We started out playing in a church basement years ago and have always had special shows there. Particularly in the Clarksburg area.

When was the last time you’ve played in the area?

We've been playing Charleston a lot the past year or two because there wasn’t a venue in the area. It's great to see one open again. We played a pizza place in Clarksburg last year and I do shows a couple times a year at Almost Heaven when my touring schedule permits.

You’re playing by yourself, right?

That is correct. Solo acoustic all tour doing requests and telling stories.

I hear we might see some Lance-Daniel interaction on stage. Is that true?

I'd say it's up to him haha.

Want to say a little bit about your past relationship and ties with Daniel?

We go way way back. He's been in and out of the band a couple of times. We've been locked up in foreign maximum security prisons together haha. There's really not much we haven't done or accomplished together. He's definitely like a brother to me.

What are you most excited about playing the show this Saturday?

I like doing all request shows because its a lot less preparation. When we bring the whole band we usually have a set list that we are doing the entire tour with the string and drum machine backing tracks and all that. So there really isn’t a lot of room for spontaneity or changing how the song goes. I like to improv and play different versions of songs acoustically. Plus just seeing old and new friends singing along is always fun.

What can listeners expect?

Hopefully just a good time and revisiting a great scene with some really great people. Come sing along.

Anything else you'd like to say?

Most of our discography is now on Spotify. Check it out!

A final random question: if you could duet with any musician on any song, who would it be, what song, and why?

It's hard to say, I've done a bunch of cool features lately and had people feature on my stuff as well. We just finished a remix with Kitty Pryde and I'm working on some stuff with Freeway and some other guys.

As far as someone I haven't yet, I really love the way my slow stuff sounds with spoken word. So I'd love to work with someone like Mos Def or someone really lyrical. I just love producing with other people so it's hard to think about duet as in both of us singing. I think Dolly Parton is a national treasure and I'd love to work with her. I just love being in the room with creative people so who every is creative and wants to create something special, I'm always down.

When did you start making art?

I started drawing as a kid but didn't really get in to it until I was about 15. At 15 I started painting so I have been doing that on and off for almost 17 years.

What style of art/painting draws you in most and why?

I paint acrylic on canvas. All different styles from realism to abstract.

Do you have a favorite piece that you’ve done?

My favorite piece is usually the most recent piece because I'm not sick of it yet and haven't had as long to pick it apart.

Tell me a little bit about this show on Saturday, how many pieces will you have, what can we expect?

The show is my first big solo show.

Will all the pieces on display be for sale?

Everything is for sale. I just want people to come and enjoy themselves. I want them to see what I have worked so hard on, and maybe bring a smile to some faces. If people buy that is surely a bonus.

Where do you draw inspiration from in your art?

Inspiration is drawn from everything in life. I appreciate art in all forms and take advantage of times to see others work. I draw inspiration from those artist today and the greats from the past.

What do you want people to know about you as a person and artist?

I guess I want people to know that I'm a regular guy with big dreams. I want to inspire people to follow their dreams. I'm very passionate about what i do and hopefully that shows in me and through my art.

Anything else you’d like to say?

Just one more thing I would like to say is that let's try to keep art alive because I feel it can play a huge role in the growth of an individual.

Come out Saturday and support J.L.W, as well as the local arts community.
